Three Questions to ask yourself before looking for a new job
Before you start looking for a new job make sure you have a plan. Know what you are looking for and why. You will then be able to take a strategic approach to job hunting and maximise your chances of finding your ideal role without flooding the market with your CV.
We suggest you ask yourself a few questions before you start:
1. Why do I want to move?
Are you leaving for the right reasons?
If you are looking for an increase in salary or career progression have you talked through this with your current employer?
How will you feel if you leave your current role and what is the best or worst thing that could happen if you don’t leave?
2. What role do I want?
If you have decided to look for a new role it’s now time to define your job brief. Think about what it is you are looking for:
Type of role? What type of company? Location? Salary Range (basic and ote)? Responsibilities? Career Prospects?
It’s important to list what is essential and what is desirable as the perfect role may not exist.
Are you looking to move now or is this a long term goal?
Do you know what your notice period is?
If you are commission/ target based when would be the best time to leave?
You are now ready to prepare your CV and start your search.
