All I want for Christmas is…

…a new job? Ok, so timing might be a bit tight to get a new role before Christmas, but the New Year is a fantastic time to start your job search in earnest. So, without further ado, here are some tips based around Christmas songs that we hope will help you with your job search in the New Year  (Bear with us, we needed to make this our Christmas blog after all!).

I wish it could be Christmas every day. We all want to wake up and feel enthusiastic about the day ahead. Think carefully about the parts of your current role that you thrive on, whilst it might not be possible to eliminate all of the not so thrilling elements in your next role, focus your search around what you want to do, not just what you can do.

Last Christmas. Think carefully and realistically about your most recent role, what skills has it given you, what industry experience have you gained, how can you best utilise this in your next step and which companies are you well aligned to approach.

Driving home for Christmas. Location is important. When you are keen to move, it can tempting to looks at roles that are that little bit further away if they tick all the other boxes. Be realistic about the commute and travel you can commit to in a role and make sure you keep a work life balance in mind.

Fairytale of New York? Whether you are utilising a selected specialist agency (ahem!) or going it alone in your search, be sure to get a clear picture of the reality of the role you are applying for. Do your background research, ask questions in interview, speak to previous employees and your network.

Step in to Christmas. We would love to help you step in to a new role. Do get in touch this December to register with us ready for all those January vacancies! You can do this here: https://www.copelandselect.co.uk/job-application/?job_id=BE177

Merry Christmas everyone!
