San Francisco based Lime Bike are trialling their electric scooters in Paris. With a 20 mile range and a 14.8 mph maximum speed they should be capable of coping with most urban commutes. The scooters can be hired by a smart phone and left anywhere after you have finished your journey.
It sounds like a ‘sweat free’ alternative to London’s popular Boris Bikes, but there is a catch. At present the electric scooters are not legal to ride either on pavements or the road in the UK. It will be interesting to see how the Paris trial ‘pans-out’ but it looks like we will need an Act of Parliament before this nippy alternative to commuting is legal in the UK.
