Career Strategy – Make a Plan

If you have recently been considering what your career options are and have perhaps come to the conclusion that you are ready for your next job, what do you do next?

Start by making a plan, nothing complicated, just write down what you are looking for and why, try answering these questions:

Why do you want to change jobs?

What are you looking for in your next role (essentials & desirables):
• Function?
• Responsibility?
• Level?
• Company type?
• Remuneration (minimum acceptable)?
• Location?
• Timescale?
Think of this as an elevator pitch to describe the role you want.

Consider if your current employer could potentially offer you what you are looking for and if so how could you influence this?

If you reach the conclusion that what you are seeking is not on offer from your current employer – get the ball rolling on your external search.
