Are you confused by competency-based interviews?
Here’s our simple guide to what they are and how to prepare. I hope it’s useful (please share with anyone who may need it).
Q. What are Competency Based Interviews?
A. Put simply, they use questions that target a specific skill or competency. Candidates are asked questions relating to their behaviour in specific circumstances, which they then need to back up with concrete examples.
Q. How can you best prepare for a competency based interview?
A. Ensure you know what the key competencies are for the job. They will often be listed on a job description but if you are unsure ask your recruitment consultant or contact. For each required competency, write down a couple of recent examples of work-based situations where you have demonstrated the competency. Ensure they are things you personally did.
Q. How to answer competency based interview questions?
A. Drawing on your preparation, ensure you put each answer into context, explain what you did and what the outcome was. Keep your answer succinct and to the point.
Good luck with your interview. For further candidate help and advice see: www.copelandselect.co.uk/candidates
