Whilst Lewis Hamilton secured his 4th World Formula 1 Drivers Championship in Mexico, closer to home Elfyn Evans won the Wales Rally GB. Evans is the first British driver to win the successor to the ‘old RAC Rally’ since Richard Burns in 2000 in his iconic blue and yellow Subaru Impreza WRC. The weekend also saw Malcolm Wilson’s Cumbria based M-Sport win the FIA WRC Manufacturer’s title.
Visitor numbers at World Rally Championship events are up and Elfin’s success can only help generate more interest. Wouldn’t it be great to see rallying return to the glory days of Colin McRae and Richard Burns battling it out in the forests.
