The headlines this morning announced new petrol and diesel cars will be banned from 2040. Well, we still need to see the detail, however, the government has a deadline of the end of July to set out their proposals to tackle air pollution and improve air quality.
It is likely that the strategy will unveil a fund to assist Councils tackle emissions. At this stage it is thought that the plans will not include a scrappage scheme but this may be debated by Parliament in the autumn.
The SMMT are lobbying the government to make sure that any proposals are phased in within a sensible timetable and do not adversely affect the automotive sector.
