- Take advice from your recruitment consultant at the brief stage as to whether the package you are offering is competitive in the current market.
- If you are advised your package is not competitive, take steps early on to either amend your candidates requirements or the package you are offering.
- Ask candidates early on what their salary expectations are but also be aware that some candidates who have not been on the job market may increase their package expectations as their job search progresses and they understand their true market value.
- Use interviews as an opportunity to ‘sell’ your business and the role – as much as to question the candidate. The best candidates may well have a number of offers to choose from.
- Be prepared to negotiate at job offer stage.
