I am sure many of you are looking forward to having an extra day off this Monday in celebration of May Day – but did you know that it also marks International Workers Day?
What many see as an ancient spring celebration with Morris dancers and sunshine, is also an iconic moment in history. It all originates back to 1886, when over 200,000 workers engineered a nationwide strike for the right to an 8-hour day. The strike continued for a few days, resulting is national disruption.
We have them to thank for our 8-hour day, something many of us take for granted. I for one will be thinking of them on May 1st, will you? Wishing you a peaceful and restful May Day holiday.
