Think before you leap

As winter finally appears to be on the way out and I can see the daffodils slowly edging up, is it now time to get your job search springing into action?

Before you leap headlong into applying for jobs I would advise taking time to think about why you’re looking for a new role and whether the grass always greener? Are you looking for a better work/life balance, increased package, promotion, change in direction or just a fresh challenge?

Whatever your reasons ask yourself if now is the right time for you and why? You don’t want to waste anybody’s time or risk ‘blotting your copybook’ with a potential new employer by applying for the wrong role at the wrong time.

Consider talking to your current employer about any issues that are making you consider leaving. If these issues can be addressed would you still be looking for a new job?

Is there such thing as a perfect job? There may well be but I personally think compromise is key, to enable one element to be perfect there may well need to be a flexibility on another.

If, after careful consideration, you still feel that now is the right time to look for a new job then get your search into action. Be prepared to invest time in creating a great CV, researching potential companies and attending interviews. Some interview processes require 2 or 3 stages often with presentation, online testing and preparation required so make sure you are ready and committed to do this.
