As I watch the Tour de France and enjoy the phenomenal success of British riders on this year’s tour. I have been contemplating on this success and how it could be transferred to the workplace.
Teamwork. In my mind the biggest key to this success is teamwork. Unrelenting commitment to the greater goal, self-sacrifice to achieve the team target.
Selflessness. Mark Cavendish would not get to the front at the right moment to execute his explosive sprint were it not for his selfless team of ‘domestiques’ who spend hour after hour making sure breakaways are brought back, shielding Cavendish from the wind and leading him out over the final kilometers. As for Sky and those mountain stages, we see Froome’s Sky teammates each successively pulling maximum revs before burning out and peeling off to keep Froom in prime position.
Praise. Both Mark Cavendish and Chris Froome never fail to acknowledge and praise their team mates for their efforts to achieve team glory.
Perhaps we could all learn from the behaviour of these winners to make our working teams more successful.
